Ancient Egypt (the Old Kingdom) started and ended because if the same climate change. The Sahara Desert used to be a woodland/forest, but a shift in global climate created a drought, which led to all the nomadic groups to unite at the oasis that was the Nile, and became one of the greatest civilizations. A couple thousand years later, there was another drought, which caused the downfall of the Old Kingdom, since there was no water to grow crops or get food, and people went crazy (some ate their own children).
